About

Sunniside is situated to the east of the main city centre and covers an area of 43 acres (17.4 ha). The area is bounded by the Inner Ring Road to the north and east, Station Street to the west and Murton Street, Pauls Road and Hudson Road to the south.

Sunniside has played a key role in Sunderland’s commercial and cultural life over the years and the area is currently undergoing massive regeneration, which is breathing new life into its historic streets.

Based around the award-winning Sunniside Gardens are state-of-the-art business premises, restaurants and cafés, niche shops, stylish homes, a cinema, casino and ten pin bowling alley. It is steeped in stunning, century’s old architecture and is home to top visitor attractions such as Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and Mowbray Park.

Following on from the success of Sunniside Gardens, £2 million public realm improvements are to be carried out along key routes linking the city centre to Sunniside. This will include pavement widening, better lighting and new, bespoke street furniture.

There are further, ambitious regeneration plans for the eastern quarter including new family homes and more state-of-the art business space.
